COURSE INFORMATION &
Panther Precision Arms Training & PRO-TEQ Firearms Academy in cooperation with the Clay County Sheriff's Office are providing professional training to qualified retired law enforcement officers.
There are two legal avenues that all retired Indiana law enforcement officers may take in order to legally carry firearms. The first is the Indiana Concealed Carry Permit (CCP). The second is through certification under Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA). LEOSA certification may be gained through LETB Certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors or from the agency that officer retired from, provided that the agency is willing to participate.
If you are interested in obtaining LEOSA certification through the Clay County Sheriff's Office, you must first contact Sgt. Frazier by e-mail or by phone to schedule an upcoming qualification training date.
The retiree must bring the following on the day of the course:
1. Valid Retired ID card meeting the requirements set by IC 35-47-15-4
2. The handgun you wish to carry concealed as a retired police officer
3. A holster for the above handgun
4. At least 48 rounds of ammunition for the above
handgun. (We suggest bringing 100+ rounds for
warm up drills and to shoot a practice qualification
course of fire.)
5. Range Usage Fee ($10.00)
This program is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy approved course and successful completion will result in the retiree being issued a LEOSA Training & Qualification Card pursuant to IC 35-47-15-5 provided by the Clay County Sheriff's Office. When accompanied by a Retired ID, this will provide the necessary documentation that the retiree has qualified within the last 12 months.
